Having lost my license for three months and being in absolute love with cars, I mean I love anything that has to do with them, it kills me to see my car just sit in the driveway with the car cover over it. So I decided to put it up on jack stands and get some work done on it. As I began to take off my front bumper I ran into a bit of a problem. The plastic skid plates, which protect the underside of your car from the asphalt, rocks, and other derby, were attached to the bottom of my bumper were be held on my plastic screws/clamps. This made for the biggest pain of my life trying to take it off. I believe that Mitsubishi should use either real metal screws or heavier duty plastic screws to do this. Its just unsafe to have these plastic “screws” holding the skid plate. I am hesitant to call them screws because they don't actually screw in. they more or less pop in and on the backside of what would be the “lug nut” is a little clamp that keeps it held in place, as shown above. I feel that this is extremely dangerous because they are PLASTIC parts made for a SKID PLATE which is going up again very very rough surfaces so they are going to deteriorate very easily. This could cause things to fall off your car and potentially further damaging your car or another persons car. Also to take this “screws” off it requires a special tool which most people wouldn't have, making me have to cut them off than go find replacements. That is just the biggest pain in the butt I have ever come to with a car. Simply Mitsubishi should just change the style of screw they use so their cars can be of a higher quality, safer and more fun to work on.

This is a good topic--perfect scope for the kinds of papers you're writing for 111.
ReplyDeleteMy husband does body work. You could definitely interview him about this topic. He'd have a LOT to say.
