Video games are addicting

Almost daily we see some news about children, they are being bullied at school, they are becoming submerged in social networks, and the one that caught my eye was that they are becoming more and more addicted to video games. There are a wide variety of different video games, ranging from computer games, cell phone games, hand-held games, to councils like Xbox 360 and Play Station. All of which have different maturity levels, such as an educational game for young children to games such as Call of Duty which is shooting game. My thought was why are children becoming so addicted to these games, what effects are these games having on their lives, and what exactly is the extent of how many children are addicted? In looking for this information I went to Illinois Central College online library and went to the SIRS website. I found many article on this topic such as “Study Finds Some Youths 'Addicted' to Video Games” by Donna St. George and “The Kidnapping of Play” by Jay Teitel. SIRS also automatically gives you a work cited of each article at the bottom of its page which will be extremely helpful. All of the sources I feel are very reliable because this website if designed specifically for research but also each article has a short description of the writer at the top. Lastly most of the articles quote ans site where they get their information from which I found was usually from a well known doctor, writer, or just someone who is heavily involved in the subject.

Lassie truck commercial

The Chevy Silverado commercial called Lassie truck, compared the Silverado’s versatility to Lassie the dog. It is saying that the Silverado is as versatile as Lassie because it can help us in various tasks. I didn’t like this commercial at first simply because I am a Ford guy and always will love my Ford trucks. The second reason I didn’t like the commercial is because all the things that the truck was helping people do are easy as pie. Any truck could perform those tasks, such as pulling a kid out of a well; a little 4 cylinder Ford Ranger with a winch could do that. Tow a sea doo during a rain storm, I’ve seen a Ford Torus pull a sea doo and a rain storm any car or truck should be able to drive through that. Pulling a inflated hot air balloon, they may weight hundreds of pounds but when they are inflated it’s the same concept as pulling something through water its much easier. As far as rushing to the scene of an erupting volcano, as far as I’m concerned you might as well turn that little Chevy around before it melts. A Ford F-150 on the other hand, nothing can beat it, has a fully boxed frame. That means that it virtually impossible for it to bend, twist, or break. The Silverado’s v8 has 335 horsepower compared to the F-150’s 310, but it gets worse gas millage plus despite the fact is has more horsepower; the F-150 out tows the Silverado by 3,400 pounds. Chevy should come up with a more realistic commercial for their trucks.

Dumbest NFL rule ever

This year due to some injury's in football the NFL has started enforcing a new rule that I believe is the dumbest rule in the game. This rule says that the players are not allowed to make a “critical” tackle. The rule is basically saying that the players are not allowed to make the hits that have shaped the name for what football is known for. Not only that but the result is negative yards against the players team, and he is fined thousands of dollars. The kind of critical hits that I am talking about include, a head to head hit, and a hit against a defenseless receiver. Some of the head to head hits that happen in football can not be avoided. As a football player I and everyone else playing the game is taught to aim for the chest when tackling someone but when the player that is getting tackled has a natural reaction to curl up just before they get hit. This reaction brings the head from their normal height of maybe 6' 5'' down to the 5' 8'' weight which now puts the players head at chest height. For the tackler it is impossible to change your aiming point in the middle of a tackle, unfortunately basically screwing the tackler. Hitting a defenseless receiver is also ridiculous because what is the defense suppose to do, let the receiver just catch the ball than tackle him. This rule is absolutely the dumbest rule to happen to football.
